Develop a Padlock from a Clear Product Direction
Raviron develops custom padlocks for importers, hardware distributors and private label brands. A project can begin with an existing model, product photograph, technical drawing, physical reference sample or description of the intended locking application.
The design is reviewed as a complete locking specification rather than by appearance alone. Important details include the body structure, material, dimensions, shackle configuration, cylinder, keying arrangement, surface finish and expected use. These factors determine whether an existing model can be adapted or whether structural changes and new tooling must be evaluated.

Lock Body, Material and Structural Design
The lock body should be selected according to the required construction, application and target price. Available design directions include brass, laminated steel, aluminum, iron, stainless steel disc, combination, smart and alarm padlocks.
Common materials include brass, stainless steel, iron, carbon steel, aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and engineering plastics. Not every material can be applied to every lock structure. Material selection must be checked together with the cylinder position, wall thickness, machining method, finish and assembly requirements.
The main dimensions to confirm include:
- Lock body width, height and thickness
- Shackle diameter
- Internal shackle width
- Vertical shackle clearance
- Standard, short or long shackle
- Cylinder and key position
- Locking and release structure
If the padlock must fit a gate, chain, locker, storage unit or specific hasp, please provide the locking-point dimensions or a reference sample.
Keying and Functional Requirements
Keying requirements should be included during design review because they can affect the cylinder, internal components, sample preparation and order organization.
Projects may specify Keyed Different or Keyed Alike arrangements. Master-key requirements are reviewed according to the selected model, cylinder and order quantity. Buyers should also confirm the number of keys supplied with each lock, key grouping, numbering and key-retaining requirements where applicable.
Combination, smart and alarm padlocks require additional functional confirmation. Depending on the product, this may include the reset mechanism, unlocking method, charging arrangement, alarm activation or other model-specific functions. Electronic or structural modifications require separate feasibility and lead-time evaluation.

Custom Sample and Design Approval
Custom samples for existing models with confirmed dimensions, finish or branding normally take around 7–15 days. A newly developed body, shackle, cylinder, electronic function or tooling change requires a separate schedule and quotation.
The sample should be checked for body dimensions, shackle fit, key operation, locking and release, surface appearance and intended application. Comments should be consolidated before revision to avoid conflicting changes.
MOQ, Lead Time and Bulk Production
Standard models usually start around 500–1,000 pieces per style. OEM designs commonly start around 1,000–3,000 pieces, depending on the structural change, material, keying, finish and packaging. New tooling or special components may require a higher quantity.
Standard bulk production normally takes around 25–35 days. More complex customized projects may require around 35–45 days after sample approval. The approved drawing, specification and sample are then used as references for component processing, assembly, key matching, function inspection and packing.
