Custom Padlocks Based on Confirmed Specifications
Raviron develops custom padlocks for importers, hardware wholesalers, security distributors and private label brands. An OEM project can begin with an existing model, a reference sample, a product drawing or a clear description of the intended locking application.
Customization may cover the lock body material and dimensions, shackle diameter and clearance, cylinder and keying arrangement, color, surface finish, logo and retail or bulk packaging. These items are reviewed together because a change in one specification may affect the lock structure, tooling, MOQ, cost or production schedule.
The objective is to establish a measurable product specification before bulk production, rather than rely on a product photo or a general description such as “heavy duty” or “outdoor padlock.”
Product Design, Materials and Lock Structure
The first step is to confirm the type of padlock and how it will be used. Available product directions include brass, laminated steel, aluminum, iron, disc, combination, smart, alarm and long-shackle padlocks. Material suitability depends on the body construction, locking mechanism, environment and target price.
For an existing model, buyers can normally select from available body sizes, materials, finishes and shackle configurations. Structural changes may require a drawing review, modified components or new tooling. Our Custom Padlock Design page explains how reference products and design requirements are converted into a workable manufacturing specification.
Common materials include brass, stainless steel, iron, carbon steel, aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and engineering plastics. Not every material is interchangeable across all models, so the final combination must be checked against the selected construction and application.
Size, Shackle and Keying Requirements
Padlock size should be confirmed by dimensions rather than a general size name. Important measurements include body width, body height and thickness, shackle diameter, internal shackle width and vertical clearance.
The locking point should also be considered. Gates, chains, lockers, storage units and hasps may require different shackle openings. A longer shackle increases clearance but may not provide the same protected structure as a short or reduced-exposure shackle.
Keyed models should specify Keyed Different or Keyed Alike requirements at the quotation stage. Master-key arrangements are reviewed according to the selected cylinder, model and order quantity. Buyers should also confirm the number of keys per lock, key grouping and any numbering requirements.
Color, Surface Finish and Logo
Body color and surface finish affect both appearance and manufacturing feasibility. Depending on the selected padlock, options may include polishing, plating, coating or colored body finishes. Buyers should provide a Pantone reference, physical color sample or approved digital reference when color consistency is important.
Logo methods depend on the body material, available marking area and surface finish. The artwork, logo size, position and required appearance should be confirmed before sampling. The Logo & Branding page covers artwork review, marking options and approval points for branded orders.
A logo sample or clear sample photograph should be approved before mass production. Finished products are checked for logo position, clarity, surface appearance and batch consistency.
Private Label and Custom Packaging
Private label programs may include product branding, barcode and SKU labels, instruction sheets, individual boxes, blister packs, inner packing and export cartons. Packaging should be developed around the padlock dimensions, product weight, number of keys and intended distribution channel.
Buyers should provide the packaging artwork, barcode data, label content, packing quantity and carton-marking requirements. Packaging structure can affect MOQ, tooling cost and lead time, especially when a new blister, insert or printed box is required.
More detailed packaging requirements can be reviewed through our Custom Padlock Packaging service.
Sample Development and Pre-Production Approval
Custom samples are normally prepared in around 7–15 days for existing models with confirmed specifications, finishes, branding or packaging. Structural changes, new tooling, electronic functions or newly developed components require separate evaluation.
The sample should be reviewed for:
- Body and shackle dimensions
- Locking and release function
- Cylinder and key operation
- Keying arrangement
- Color and surface finish
- Logo position and appearance
- Packaging fit and printed information
Comments should be consolidated before revision. Once approved, the sample and specification become the reference for component processing, assembly, key matching, inspection and packing. The complete procedure is explained on our Sample Development page.
MOQ, Lead Time and Bulk Production
Standard padlock models usually start around 500–1,000 pieces per style. OEM and private label programs often start around 1,000–3,000 pieces, depending on the model, keying arrangement, finish, logo and packaging.
Standard bulk production normally takes around 25–35 days. More complex customized projects may require around 35–45 days after specification and sample approval. New molds, special components or electronic modifications are quoted and scheduled separately.
During production, checks cover component dimensions, cylinder and shackle fit, key matching, locking function, surface appearance, logo and final packing.
Information Required for an OEM Quotation
To prepare an accurate quotation, please provide the padlock type or reference photo, body material and dimensions, shackle diameter and clearance, keying requirement, quantity per style and color, logo artwork, surface finish, packaging requirements and destination country.
If the specification is incomplete, send the intended application or an existing sample. We can review the available information and identify which details must be confirmed before sampling and bulk production.
