Why Padlock Samples Need Clear Approval
A custom padlock sample provides a measurable reference for bulk production. It allows the buyer and factory to confirm dimensions, shackle fit, locking operation, keying, surface appearance, logo and packaging before the order enters mass production.
Raviron supports sample development for importers, hardware distributors and private label brands purchasing padlocks for wholesale and repeat programs. Custom samples are typically prepared in approximately 7–15 days, depending on the model, finish, branding, packaging and whether structural changes are required.
Information Required Before Sampling
Sample development should begin with a confirmed requirement rather than only a product photograph. Please provide the available information for the proposed padlock:
- Padlock type and intended application
- Body material, width and thickness
- Shackle diameter and internal clearance
- Cylinder and keying arrangement
- Color and surface finish
- Logo artwork, size and position
- Packaging format and label requirements
- Expected bulk order quantity
A reference sample, dimensioned drawing or marked product photograph can help clarify the project. If the required model differs from an existing product, our custom padlock design process explains how references and structural requirements are reviewed.
Sample Type and Development Scope
The appropriate sample route depends on what the buyer needs to verify. An existing sample may be suitable for checking general construction, material and function. A modified sample may be required when the project includes a different shackle, finish, color or logo. A fully customized sample may involve component or structural adjustments.
Before sample preparation, we clarify which features will match the proposed bulk product and which details remain subject to production tooling or final material confirmation. This prevents an appearance sample from being treated as a complete functional approval reference.
Projects involving non-standard dimensions should first confirm feasibility through our size and shackle customization guidance.
What We Check on the Sample
The sample should be reviewed against the agreed specification rather than judged only by appearance. The main checkpoints include:
- Lock body dimensions and material
- Shackle diameter, height and internal clearance
- Cylinder fit and key insertion
- Key rotation, locking and release
- Keyed Different or Keyed Alike arrangement
- Surface finish, coating and color
- Logo size, position and clarity
- Product fit inside the selected packaging
For smart, alarm or combination models, the relevant unlocking, reset, charging or alarm functions should also be confirmed according to the selected product.
Logo and Packaging Sample Approval
Logo and packaging samples may be prepared together with the product sample when artwork and packaging requirements are available. The buyer should check logo contrast, marking position, print clarity, box structure, barcode information and product positioning.
Packaging changes made after product approval can affect dielines, inserts, sample cost and lead time. Buyers Buyers with branded packaging requirements should review the custom packaging process before artwork is finalized.
Recording Sample Feedback
Feedback should identify the exact item requiring correction. Useful comments include a revised dimension, required color reference, adjusted logo position or observed locking issue. Marked photographs and consolidated comments are more effective than separate general descriptions.
When revisions are required, the updated points should be recorded in the specification. The revised sample can then be reviewed against the previous version without losing confirmed details.
From Approved Sample to Bulk Production
Once the sample is accepted, the approved product, specification and packaging details become references for component processing, assembly, inspection and packing. Bulk production should not begin until critical dimensions, keying, finish, logo and packaging requirements are confirmed.
Finished locks are subsequently checked for component fit, key matching, locking function, appearance and packing accuracy. Buyers can review the related lock function testing procedures used during production.
Request a Custom Padlock Sample
Please send the padlock model, dimensions, material, shackle specification, keying requirement, logo artwork, packaging reference and estimated bulk quantity. We will evaluate feasibility, sample scope, expected preparation time and the information required before production approval.
