Processing the Padlock Body Structure
The lock body supports the cylinder, shackle and internal locking components, so its dimensions directly affect assembly and finished-lock operation. Raviron uses machining, drilling, stamping and related metal-processing methods according to the selected padlock material and body structure.
Solid brass, aluminum, iron, zinc-alloy and laminated steel bodies do not follow exactly the same production route. Before processing begins, the factory confirms the body material, width, thickness, hole positions, cylinder structure and shackle dimensions against the approved specification.
Materials and blanks are prepared through our padlock material preparation process before being released for machining or stamping.
Machining Solid Lock Bodies
Solid lock bodies usually require several controlled machining operations. Depending on the model, these may include cutting the body blank, machining the external profile, drilling cylinder and shackle holes, preparing internal component positions and removing sharp edges.
Critical dimensions include:
- Finished body width, height and thickness
- Cylinder-hole diameter, depth and alignment
- Shackle-hole spacing and diameter
- Internal positions for pins, springs or locking components
- Logo area and external surface condition
Small dimensional differences can affect cylinder insertion, shackle movement or final assembly. Machined bodies are therefore checked before moving to surface finishing or component assembly.
Stamping and Laminated Body Production
Laminated steel padlocks use multiple shaped steel plates assembled to form the body. Plate dimensions, hole alignment and layer consistency must be controlled so the completed body can accept the cylinder, shackle and internal locking parts.
Stamping may also be used for selected covers, shells, plates or smaller metal components. The tooling and sequence depend on the component shape, material thickness and order volume.
Stamped edges, hole positions and deformation are checked during production. Misaligned plates or distorted parts can cause poor component fit and increase difficulty during assembly. Riveting and finishing requirements must also be considered when confirming the laminated-body design.
Drilling and Dimensional Control
Drilling positions are set according to the padlock structure and confirmed dimensions. The shackle holes must correspond with the selected shackle diameter and spacing, while the cylinder opening must fit the specified cylinder without excessive looseness or interference.
Typical in-process checks may cover:
- Body width and thickness
- Hole diameter and drilling depth
- Center distance between shackle holes
- Cylinder-hole position
- Flatness and visible deformation
- Burrs, scratches and unfinished edges

Preparing Bodies for Finishing and Assembly
After machining or stamping, lock bodies are cleaned, deburred and sorted according to model and production batch. The required next step may include polishing, plating, coating, anodizing or another model-specific finish.
The body surface must be properly prepared because machining marks, oil residue or inconsistent edges may remain visible after finishing. OEM Sampling and Bulk Production Considerations
Using an existing body structure usually requires less preparation than developing a new body shape or internal layout. Structural changes may affect tooling, sample cost, MOQ and lead time.
During sampling, the machined or stamped body is checked together with the cylinder, shackle and internal components. A complete lock sample is then evaluated for fit, locking function and appearance before bulk production approval.
For quotation, buyers should provide the padlock type, body material, dimensions, shackle specification, cylinder requirement, finish, quantity and reference drawing or sample. Clear dimensional information helps us evaluate the suitable process and avoid unnecessary revisions during sampling and mass production.
