Confirm Dimensions from the Locking Application
Padlock dimensions should be selected according to the actual locking point rather than a general description such as small, medium or heavy duty. A padlock that is suitable for a locker may not provide the clearance required for a gate, chain, storage unit or hasp.

Lock Body Dimensions
The main body measurements include:
- Body width
- Body height
- Body thickness
- Cylinder position
- Shackle-hole position
- Available logo area
Body width affects the overall appearance, weight, cylinder arrangement and compatibility with the selected shackle. Thickness can also influence the available internal space and product structure.
Using an existing body size is normally more practical for sampling, MOQ and production scheduling. A completely new width, thickness or internal structure may require modified tooling or a newly developed lock body.
Shackle Diameter and Material
Shackle diameter should be confirmed together with the lock body, locking point and expected application. A thicker shackle cannot automatically be installed in an existing body because the shackle holes, locking components and internal fit must remain compatible.
Depending on the model, shackles may use stainless steel, carbon steel or another confirmed metal construction. Surface protection, appearance and any additional performance requirement should be specified before quotation.
If a buyer requires corrosion, cutting, pulling or other performance testing, the requested test method and acceptance criteria should be provided for model-specific review. Material or shackle appearance alone does not confirm a particular security grade.
Shackle Width and Vertical Clearance
Two internal shackle measurements are especially important:
- Internal width between the two shackle legs
- Vertical clearance from the lock body to the inside top of the shackle
Standard shackles are suitable for many general hardware applications. Short shackles reduce the exposed locking area, while long shackles provide additional clearance for larger chains, gates or locking points.

A reference photo should include a ruler or dimension mark. For project-specific applications, providing the hasp, chain or locking-point measurements is more reliable than estimating from an image.
Size and Fit Sample Approval
A size sample should be checked against the intended application before bulk production. Inspection points include:
- Body width, height and thickness
- Shackle diameter
- Internal shackle width
- Vertical shackle clearance
- Cylinder and shackle fit
- Locking and release
- Key insertion and rotation
- Surface appearance
For existing models with modified branding, finish or an available shackle option, custom samples normally take around 7–15 days. A new shackle size, new body structure or tooling change requires separate evaluation.
MOQ and Bulk Production
Standard models usually start around 500–1,000 pieces per style. OEM projects commonly start around 1,000–3,000 pieces, depending on the body size, shackle construction, material, keying, finish and packaging. A newly developed body or shackle may require a higher MOQ.
Standard bulk production normally takes around 25–35 days. More complex customized projects may require around 35–45 days after sample approval.
The approved drawing, dimensions and physical sample are used as references during component processing, assembly, function inspection and packing.
