Select the Material Around the Lock Construction
Padlock body material affects product weight, appearance, corrosion resistance, machining method, cost and intended application. The suitable option should be selected together with the lock structure, shackle specification, cylinder, surface finish and target market.
Raviron works with brass, stainless steel, iron, carbon steel, aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and engineering plastics across different padlock categories. These materials are not interchangeable in every model. We review the required application and reference product before confirming whether an existing body can be used or a structural modification is necessary.
Buyers can begin with one of our existing padlock categories or provide a drawing, photograph or physical reference sample.
Brass Padlock Bodies
Brass is commonly selected for traditional keyed padlocks supplied through hardware and security distribution channels. A brass body provides a solid appearance and can be machined into different widths and cylinder configurations.
Important details include the actual body material, width, height, thickness, cylinder opening and surface finish. The body should also be reviewed together with the required shackle diameter and clearance.

Laminated Steel and Iron Bodies
Laminated steel padlocks use multiple steel layers to form the body structure. Buyers should confirm the body width, lamination construction, riveting or assembly method, surface protection and required shackle.
These models are often selected for general hardware, industrial and outdoor-oriented programs. Quality checks should cover steel-layer alignment, body assembly, cylinder fit, locking function and surface consistency.
Iron bodies may use different constructions and finishes depending on the model. The exact material and surface treatment should be stated clearly in the quotation rather than described only as a “metal padlock.”

Stainless Steel, Aluminum and Alloy Options
Stainless steel is used for selected disc locks, shackles and other models where material appearance or environmental exposure is an important consideration. The specific steel type and corrosion-resistance requirement must be confirmed for each project. A stainless appearance alone should not be treated as proof of a specific grade or test result.
Aluminum bodies are lightweight and suitable for programs requiring multiple colors, anodized or coated finishes and visible branding. Buyers should confirm the body size, finish, color reference, cylinder and keying requirement.
Zinc alloy and engineering plastics are used in selected combination, smart, alarm or covered padlock constructions. Their suitability depends on the housing design and internal locking structure. We do not recommend changing a body material without first reviewing component fit and manufacturing feasibility.
Custom Body Dimensions and Structural Changes
The main lock body dimensions include:
- Body width
- Body height
- Body thickness
- Cylinder position
- Shackle-hole position
- Internal component space
- Logo marking area
An existing body size normally provides the most practical route for sampling and MOQ control. Changes to the width, thickness, cylinder opening or internal structure may require modified tooling or a newly developed body.
The quotation should therefore distinguish between selecting an available body and developing a new construction.
Finish and Sample Confirmation
Available surface directions may include polishing, plating, coating or colored finishes, depending on the selected material and model. Buyers should provide a color reference, finish sample or clear product photograph when appearance consistency is important.

Custom samples for existing models normally take around 7–15 days. New body structures, tooling or special components require separate evaluation.
MOQ and Quotation Information
Standard models usually start around 500–1,000 pieces per style. OEM projects commonly start around 1,000–3,000 pieces, depending on the body material, dimensions, finish, keying requirement and packaging. New tooling may require a higher quantity.
